Our approach · Strategy 2026–2028

Leading AI for migration. Responsibly. At scale.

The vision

An IOM where AI elevates every migrant's journey, empowers every colleague, enhances every process, and equips every government to build safer, more resilient futures.

Showing the world how AI can serve humanity's most vulnerable with dignity, transparency and care.

The three priorities

Three priorities

Every solution IOM builds traces back to one of three priorities and within each, to a specific frontier of the mission. Select a priority to explore where it reaches.

How we work

Capability, kept close to the work

A small core that enables, and a distributed network of colleagues who build where the mission actually happens.

A Centre of Enablement

A lean core global team that sets standards, provides the platform and tools, and clears the path so colleagues can build without rebuilding the foundations each time.

Regional & departmental AI Champions

A network of trained colleagues across every IOM region. These people know the problems first-hand and carry capability into their teams.

Value, created close to the mission

Capability sits close to where value is created. Close to the work, close to the people we serve with oversight and support travelling alongside it.

Anchored to global frameworks

Every priority traces up to a global mandate

The AI strategy is built on, and accountable to, the frameworks that define safe, orderly and dignified migration.
